#327 - Shoe
I thought it was so cool when I got my first pair of velcro shoes as a kid. I kept opening and closing the straps to make the sound over and over. The main unexpected problem I had was that they can fail in the winter. After slogging through deep snow for a while they straps would slowly come undone and the velcro would trap frozen snow in the thousands of tiny hooks. Then you have to do a funny shuffle walk back home to put your shoes by the heater and let them thaw out.

The mental image I got when I read the caption was just as funny as the cartoon; Biff is wearing his shoes normally, but, having forgotten how to operate them–i.e. walk–he’s all unsteady on his feet.
Also: High-fives for velcro! I just bought a pair of velcro shoes. So. Friggin’. Cool. If only they had velcro shirts and pants and… I dunno, cars. That’d be sweet.

Yeah, I had the same problem at the beginning of the year, but I had been wearing velcro shoes for two and a half years before that. I looked like a fool in the locker room the day I swithced back to shoestrings.

Nothing against velcro, but as a shoe fanatic I find it disguisting how many good shoes go to waste because they have velcro instead of lace!

I never managed to get laces to work for me very well. They would always fray, or the aglets would break/crack and fall off making relacing difficult. I hate velcro on shoes, though, since they make me feel like an old man (no offense to the not-so-old-men-wearing-velcro crowd). Currently, I’m trying out a pair of shoes that has no laces and no velcro, just a tongue supported by elastic. They are certainly not any good for running, but they are fine for work.
Is it just me or do velcro shoes wear out faster than others?

my shoes have laces, but i don’t tie them, i do something too complicated to explain with them so they are not tied and still hold my shoe closed…

ooh, slip-ons are awesome! (I have turned a pair of “ordinary” vans into slip-ons simply by tying the laces really loose…works fine, and looks cool too

to above: i do pretty much the same thing, i just tie the very well the first time, then i bash my foot in and out for a couple of weeks(2-3 usualy) and then they fit perfectly and i can just slide in

I tried buying a pair of velcro shoes again now that I’m an adult and it just didn’t work for me. First few weeks were okay but it seems that the velcro died too fast.
I prefer my soles to wear out first…heh.

I’m more of the flashy shoelace person. The design I had for my new shoes? Skull and Crossbones. Too bad my GIR shoelaces are for small kid’s shoes (it only took me a half hour and a lot of re-laing to realize that u.u).

I remember when I was younger loving the light-up shoes, just walking and looking back at my shoes to watch them light up…I ran into a lot of stuff that way though.

I’ve been wearing velcro for 15 years, and the snow freezing thing has never happened to me. But that may be because we never get much snow.
Weird, how stereotypical americans think the temperature goes down 10 degrees once they step across the border.
And how they (The stereotypical ones) think we’re all lumberjacks up in Canada.

I tie my shoes once, and that’s it. For some reason, the laces never come loose and I can just slip my feet right in.
I hate shoes like Biff’s. I mean, Biff’s shoes are awesome (everything about him is awesome), but for some reson I HATE flattops.

Why bother? The sled dogs will warn us if anyone tries to come in.
Honestly? I live in a subdivision of a moderately sized city. We lock the doors at night, and if we’re going to be out during the day. But if I get up in the morning and realise I forgot to lock up the night before, no big deal.

I wear shoes that slip on (they’re covered in a rainbow of hearts) with orthopedic inserts. The shoes I really want to wear are white knee-high go-go boots (problem is my calves are too big for off-the-rack sizes). If only I lived with a rich man, then he could get me custom-made go-go boots.
Still, velcro? I had to learn to tie laces sooner or later.

I forget which site I was browsing when I saw it, but this comic was used an ad for the site, and it’s what made me click and start at the beginning from the most recent one (#491)
Now, 327 comics later, I still think my favorite was the one where he found a way to eat cereal before it got soggy. That and the mashed potato farm were the two that made me laugh the loudest.

This reminds me of an episode of Family Guy, when Peter in flashback shows us the time he forgot how to sit down….hillarious.
It also reminds me of a VG Cats comic, parodising Final Fantasy XIIm where the characters are to stupid to wear hats before they aqquire the proper license for it…

for some reason when i put on my first pair of velcro shoes i thought that i was a commando. kids are so dumb sometimes.
