#451 - Solitary
I loved going to the grocery store on free sample day when I was a kid. I got to find out about all kinds of different food that my parents never bought. In a way it was also disappointing because no matter how delicious something was, that little sample is all I would ever get.

A-ha! Dream week! I’m on to you, Chris.
And I love Costco so much for the free food all over the place. A pity I tend to go there after eating, though…
The Duck Has Spoken.

They almost never have free food here, and when they do it just isn’t tasty

Dream week…interesting…
Lol, i don’t see much of samples around here though =p

As I grew older samples became more and more dissapointing for me. I haven’t seen samples of anything that interesting for ages. Last thing I saw sampled were some variety of crisps (or chips for US people). I mean what the heck? Samples should be things from the fresh food counters like meat, cheese, pastries or cakes.

Oooh a dream theme as this week’s meme!

The supermarket samples…Mmm…
I enjoy going to the grocery store, especially, if something good is there.

Ummmm…This is ONLY in his dreams?
February 26th, 2008 at 7:15 am
Mmmmm…..Samples.
A visit to castco on sunday’s like a free lunch.

I meant costco of course.
Pfft, it’s only a typo

Biff is always the only one that shows up, ever. I’m starting to think this is I am Legend and he set the “free samples” up himself to make himself feel better.

When I was a kid, this grocery near my house had an orange juice sample machine. You could take a cup and get as much as you wanted. It was amazing. My brothers and I probably cost that place $10 every time we went to the grocery with our mom.

Ah-Ha!
So Biff *isn’t* the only person in BiffWorld…
I’m never comfortable taking the free samples - It’s like an implied contract or something - you ate the sample, now you have to buy the food…

@Masked man: That’s just paranoia. I felt that way, too, but I took anyway.
February 26th, 2008 at 8:55 am
@MaskedMan - That’s the thing… you don’t!

I’ve had a few complete meals at Costco.
February 26th, 2008 at 9:18 am
The food building at the Ex used to have reasonable samples, you could go around getting enough samples to make a meal.

Samples are always good. I like the free ice cream samples the best. (^_^)v
February 26th, 2008 at 9:34 am
Yum yum yum. The Costco around here always had a lot of samples, and a lot of them are great. Sometimes I wish I was the only one there so I could get ALL the samples I wanted.

yes costco rocks. You could go to one station and have a spicy piece of meat, and then just go two aisles down for a drink sample. couple of minutes, you can go back, no one will pay that much attention.
I also like their ice cream, they have good soft serve icecream

le gourmet chef and stonewall kitchen are my favorite for samples. we were there yesterday, and thought its mostly pretzels, bread and chips, the dips for everything are wonderful. the cinnamon apple butter was especially good.
February 26th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
Could we possibly be going for FIVE theme weeks in a row?
February 26th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
Ugh. I feel your pain, Chris. I had this one meat sample at Wal-Mart… so good. But I never remembered what it was, so I never got a second taste.
February 26th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
To PhycoDuck: Always go there after eating, just leave a little room, otherwise you’ll leave with 15 lbs of food you didn’t need!
There is a local supermarket here in town that has samples of fresh and local food, like ham smoked right at the store! Delectable!
Now I’m hungry…
P.S. The sausages are a monster deal at Costco. You get a sausage and drink for less than most places charge for just the drink!

at greggs (bakery sort of place, do a lot of pasties, dont know if they are in america) as the free samples, all they do is chop a pastie up into about 6 pieces. a while ago, my friend went in took the free samples, and got a free pasty out of it.
February 26th, 2008 at 7:40 pm
My favorite samples are the ones like Biff has here: the little Swedish Meatballs. I’ll just wait until no one is looking, then grab a whole bunch of them and just wander around with my snack.
February 27th, 2008 at 3:14 pm
Biff deserves the samples after all that’s happened to him.
February 27th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Costco (I live in Texas, USA, and that may have something to do with it) but as far as free samples go I’ve only seen a large number of them located in a Sam’s Club on saturdays, and there’s no actual limit to how many samples you can take either.
Also, to people on diets, eating samples is good if you just take your time browsing between each one. You’ll find your stomach feeling filled with a lot less food.

teeheehee i love free samples! espcially when its cake or fudge o=
