#453 - Chapeau
When I was a kid the free toys that came in a box of cereal were actually mixed into the cereal. I was pretty skinny and got very skilled at digging through a freshly opened box and finding the toy without spilling any of the cereal. One day I was getting myself some breakfast and was amazed to see a second toy fall out into the bowl. Ever since then when I opened a new box I would spend an extra five minutes digging around looking for another bonus toy. It unfortunately turned out to be a very rare occurrence.

Like the infamous double-yoked egg, two toys in your serial is the holy grail of free stuff.

Heh, two toys was always a bonus when I wasn’t meant to happen. I never got too skilled at digging for toys though. Oh! And my sister hated when I shoved my arm in the cereal.
Fun times, fun times.

Dammit, I meant “cereal”… Curse you, typos! CURSE YOU!

I always loved it when you got free kid spoons. I loved those.

I just realized it’s a biff theme week, and now that I pointed it there is a good chance ill be wrong.

I recall my brother and I got a box of captain crunch that had all of the collectible whatsits in it instead of just one. A magical day indeed. *nods seriously*
How did those hats fit in the box?

@ Kitsunie:
It is a cereal box unlike that any of us have ever seen before.

Shame all the cereal toys i can remember doesn’t come in pairs =(

Hmm, maybe I should start buying name brand cereal again so I can get toys. Unfortunately, now the toys are “free with x proofs of purchase and $3 shipping”. It allows for bigger toys, but sometimes “more frequent” is what kids… and immature adults… really want.

Ha ha, Biff looks like Johnny Two Hats from Mighty Boosh… but I think I’m the only one who made that connection

I once saw a double-yolked egg when I made Valentine cupcakes this year.
I love free stuff (mainly because I live in poverty).

I have two brothers, one of which is a twin. Whenever we discovered a (emphasis on the singular) toy in a cereal box, it was usually followed by a melee that my mom describes as “horrible”.

I bet she used to pray that we’d find more than one toy in the box, just for one morning’s peace; on the plus side, me and my brothers can fight like hellions in a scrap now…

Someplace, somewhere
Some little kid opened a
box without his little toy
in it, because Biff got two.

If it’s not too late, Chris, maybe you can change the name of this comic to “chapeaux”, plural!
February 28th, 2008 at 9:57 am
Interesting…sooooo did he give up the cereal that came with the free rockets or what? Or maybe he has enough of those, now he’s trying to fill his hat rack.
February 28th, 2008 at 10:01 am
Wait… What cereal gives fancy lids as toys..?!
I need to get me some of that!
February 28th, 2008 at 10:41 am
@ kitsune
its a biff dream. anything can happen (which is quite worrying)
February 28th, 2008 at 10:43 am
I bet you can get a hat from a box of cereal if you buy in bulk.

I never managed to nab two toys in one cereal box. I’ve also never seen a double-yoked egg. Though, I did always get a large number of sodas that gave me free stuff. Several times I’d turn in the soda cap for another 20oz soda and then that one would win me something. It was spiff.

Yeminds (I realized I spelt that wrong, but it looks cool, so I’ll keep it like that) me of when my brother got two bags of skittles out of a vending machine.

February 28th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
I never got too many toys that I recall, we normally got that cereal in the bags.
In better news, I posted this story on Biff and dreams a while back: http://www.thebeandom.com/spaceturtle/?q=biffmare

Bwahaha!!! Nice ficlit Chivbean!
Dreams are awesome…last night, I had a dream that I helped a man and his wife escape from a house (by opening the front door all sneaky like and ushering them out to the car where my mom was waiting) where this weird family lived. They had this obsession with bloodlines. Due to some weird thing that wasn’t specified in the dream, all of the ‘first generation’ children (as they were called) were deemed ‘unsuitable’ and weren’t allowed to have kids later in life. Obviously the dude that we rescued was one of those.
Anyways, I infiltrated the house (AFTER we had gotten the guy out) and stuck around for a bit. I was sort of like a guest I think, because they all knew I was there. I think I was being used to distract them from the fact that the one dude left….
So I’m in this house that I don’t recognize (which is odd, because usually in dreams it’s my house or one of my friends houses) walking around and talking to the people. There’s this one old lady who’s like, the gradma or something, and then there’s a bunch of ’second generation’ kids who are all around 9-10.
Two of the kids were really sweet. there was a boy with dark hair who was very serious, but very polite, who wanted out of the house; and there was a girl who had kinky black hair and darker skin, with glasses and braces. She was really nice and outgoing, and I think she was arranged to marry the dark haired kid I mentioned before.
Anyways, the dream ended when I ‘escaped’ (again, by walking out the [this time back] door in broad daylight) to the outdoors where I suddenly found myself at my house (one of those weird changes of scenery) where my mom was giving me some GIANT pocky to bring to my friends at school….
Yeah.

Cereal and toys, fun stuff. For a while in some cereal they had Shreck 3 themed toys, bought a box and fond three toys within the box.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:42 pm
Is this another theme week?
March 1st, 2008 at 7:24 am
Wow, your blurb about the comic and my experience with life are exactly the same this time, Chris!
March 2nd, 2008 at 10:12 pm
I once got a triple-yoked egg!
