Welcome to the new site

April 9th, 2008

Hey everyone! As part of Biff’s 2 year anniversary I’m launching a new version of thebookofbiff.com. From now on I will try and keep site news down here in the blog section and just have my little story time comments attached to the comics themselves. So poke around and let me know if anything is broken! There are a few things from the old version that I haven’t moved over yet so there will be some tweaking in the next week or so. My favorite new feature is the archive section. Click the archive drop down menu in the sidebar and select a month. I love it!

Oh hooray for an archive. I’ve been wanting one. =)

  2. Tsunoba Says:

    An archive? Seriously?

OH MY GOD, I LOVE YOU.

    *rejoices*

  3. JezMM Says:

Ah, lovely job. It always worries me when sites change their format because I’m rather nostalgic and wish I could have got a screenshot of the old style etc etc for old times’ sake - but this has a perfect mix of old and new, like a cleaner “update” of the same classic style we know and love. Looks awesome.

On the comments section, the archive box is pushed to the bottom, making the page longer than needed (and pushing my Space Turtle ad down further from view). In fact, it does this on the main page as well. Maybe edit the archive calander so it stays up higher, at the top and/or just under the advertizements. You have no PJW ads on your comments page sidebar, You’ll get more impressions if you do. Otherwise, if might drop, because now everyone who clicked the comments before will still do so, but the ads wont be displayed like before.

Besides all that, I like the design. {:0)

  5. Chris Says:

@Chivalrybean - what OS/browser are you using? I can’t find one myself that is dropping the archive box like you describe.

  6. speearr Says:

Oh rats…. I totally based my site design on yours, tweaking my Comicpress this way and that to get the title above the strip and putting all the words in boxes. And now you’ve done THIS!
Haha welll looking good and functional!

  7. Sleepingorange Says:

I miss the words in boxes…

  8. Garrett Says:

When I first loaded this page, I thought it was a late April Fools switch with WTH comics, because their Project Wonderful ad is right where I expected the site’s header.

  9. speearr Says:

    How about a Random Button?!?!

  10. ¡el pingüino bilingüe¿ Says:

I like tthe new design, but I think you should keep the search bar, ‘cuz what if your like “That Biff with the fluffy bunny was funny” and you want to see it but you have to scroll through the archive?

Did you make the green sides darker?

  11. dragonbrad Says:

wow, I love the new site

  12. Chivalrybean Says:

@Chris IE 7 on a laptop at work 1024×768. Normally I use FireFox, when at home.

  13. the Scarf Says:

I like the site, but I commented it on the forums, so it’s not needed..

what were two comics you mashed together for this? I remember something about a robot hand, but I don’t know what it actually is…

  14. Anonymous person Says:

Is it just me, or does Biff give snake DNA to everything???????

  15. the Scarf Says:

I’m still waiting for the return of the snake toaster…That thing rocks.

  16. Chivalrybean Says:

At home the site works right. Yay for FireFox! Boo for Internet Excrame… Explorer.

  17. BlueKitsune Says:

Here just in case people want to look at the old versions of this site and like a million other sites

  18. Chris Says:

Hi there! Please bring back the logo with the book reading Biff, I liked this one very much!

  19. Chris Says:

@Chris - Yeah I liked it as well but the logo was repeated twice. Once on the website and once on the comic. It was redundant and I decided to keep the logo attached to the comic. I like the look of it there. You can still visit the comic that has Biff reading the book here:

  20. Reg Says:

I’ve been meaning to say this for a while, but the new site layout is awesome! I always loathed clicking back again and again to try and find a comic, but the new ARCHIVE section is great.

  21. Cudzu Says:

Well, I like the new layout, but are now so many spamy, animated adds. I don’t want to be mean, but it’s very distracting and makes the site look tacky.

  22. Cudzu Says:

    Here’s a side-by-side: http://www.jaredsdailygreen.com/misc/biff1side.jpg

To me, at first glance the comic could even be mistaken for another ad…

  23. Chris Says:

@Cudzu - I have been blocking some of the more ridiculous ads so hopefully I can get the quality of them up a bit. To be fair, I did have a bunch of ads in the old layout. They just don’t load in the archive.org version.

  24. AdmiralChaos Says:

i just successfully read from the very first biff comic to this day’s comic, and it took me an almost solid 10 hours. i am going to bed now.

p.s. disappointing how i can’t just scroll down and read people’s comments any more. that was fun.

  25. AdmiralChaos Says:

and now i suddenly realize that simply going to thebookofbiff.com doesn’t show people’s comments of the current strip, as compared to thebookofbiff.com/(date). i feel mildly stupid >.>
