I remember when I was a kid Blue Cheese salad dressing was all the rage. A lot of places charged 25 cents extra for it but that’s always what we got. I think part of the appeal to me was eating blue food. Colors like that were more for desserts. Drinks or candy or ice cream type stuff. I had that same dressing for so many years in a row that anything else didn’t really taste like a “salad” to me. Now that I’m adult I like a variety of dressings and I actually can’t remember the last time I had blue cheese.

Wow. You two must have waited, refreshing the page until this comic was posted. and i thought i was bad. oh well…
I cede to your first-posting abilities.
also, @torg, you must have changed a LOOOOT of oil if you thought it was 3 miles.

I have a dressing story of my own, actually.
As a kid, I loved Ranch dressing. I still love it today, but we just never seem to have it in the house often. In middle school, I always bought my lunch, and there was a condiment corner at the end of the line where you could get ketchup, mustard, relish, and ranch, and I’d always get a nice heaping amount to dip, well, just about everything that I got. One day, the guys I ate with looked at me eat and said “You love ranch so much, why not just eat it by itself?”
I did. I took the little cup I had put it in and downed a big gulp of it. Everyone was either grossed out or laughing their butts off.

I’ve never expected Bleu Cheese dressing to taste good, so I’ve never tried it. Maybe I should, actually.

(Off-Topic) What Time zone is this site set on? My clock says 7/22 @ 10:55 PM, but the post above me says 7/23 @ 12:43 AM…
Anyways, awesome comic. On the topic of oily dressings does anyone find it slightly disgusting/disturbing that some of the dressings in the aisles at the market always have this huge pool of oil with this chuck of veggies at the bottom? It looks fine if you shake it, but separated it just looks…odd
(Wow, long post is loooooong)

I’ve never liked bleu cheese. Something about the fact that it’s blue because of a certain type of mold the grows on it just grosses me out, no matter how the dressing itself tastes.

Fun Fact: I used to put bleu cheese on my noodles.

@Colin: Do you know how long it takes to carry salad dressing three miles?
And had I just been sitting in front of the main page hitting refresh, I would have posted at 12:03.
@Qskecksget: Central Standard Time

This comic actually reminded me that I need to change my oil… I’m way over-due by now. And as a side note, I’ve never been able to get past the fact that it’s mold… that is also one of the main reasons I can’t touch mushrooms either. Strange but true.
And as a second side note, thanks for another great comic Chris!

I don’t like bleu cheese. Nothing to do with it having a fungus, I love mushrooms. I just prefer vinaigrettes. I especially like the kind with oil sitting on top of vegetable chunks that you have to shake up to look not-odd.

Yay! I finally made it through the entire archive. I think I’ll go lie down now…my back is killing me.
Oh! And I love bleu cheese on wings and celery sticks but not on my salad, for that I like Italian, Honey Mustard or Ranch in that order, though I have been known to go for a nice fruity vinaigrette. (Mmm, raspberry.)

maybe its just me…I like bleu cheese! haha oil and vinegar dressing is really good too!

Bleu Cheese dressing is a favorite of mine.
The Cafe at work needs to get Biff to change the oil in their “Lite Italian” dressing, though - it’s always seperated out, and I have to stir it a LOT to get it all mixed up enough to look right before I ladle it over my salad.

Those lite salad dressings kind of get to me. I normally see the vinaigrettes separate, and about 1/2 of it is oil. With the lite dressings, what are they using to replace HALF of the bottle? Is it still mostly oil, just canola or something. Something is fishy about those lite dressings.

I used to like Bleu Cheese dressing on my salad as a kid. I was more the fascination of eating something I thought was really blue. Nowdays I prefer a Ceasar dressing or a well done savory Ranch, not the cheap sweet Ranch that some buffet restaurants use.

I’ve loved bleu cheese in all it’s forms since I was given it as kid by my grandpa

Man, Chris, I gotta tell you. I love the little stories you post right under the comics.
Promise me you’ll never stop sharing them with us. They’re great.
(it’s not irony, however much it may seem)

I used to have Kraft Bacon ‘n Tomato dressing, and then they DISCONTINUED IT ON ME. D:

Doesn’t oil get better with age, sort of like fine wine?

Next: Biff fixes himself a Peanut-Butter-and-Petroleum-Jelly sandwich. Yum!

Another blue cheese dressing lover chiming in… have always liked it, particularly when it actually has chunks of the cheese in it (but funny thing tho’ - I don’t much care for mushrooms). I like Ranch dressing but I kinda miss the type that used real buttermilk…
July 29th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
wait….then if you weren’t…how do you know when the page was updated?
December 10th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
Oil does not improve with age; it goes rancid.
Fresh ingredients generally taste better, anyway.
Have you ever seen someone mistake bleu cheese dressing for ranch? That’s a mistake I don’t care to make.
