#731 – Masa

When I was a kid my mom made tacos by combining meat with a package of powder called TACO SEASONING. That seasoning packet was powerful stuff. This became obvious when I overheard my mom telling another mom about the wonders of ground turkey. “I started making tacos with turkey instead of beef about 5 years ago and nobody even noticed.” I guess they were always just an excuse to eat cheese and olives anyway.

I’m a fan of hot food, but when you can’t tell what meat you’re eating, you’ve gone too far.

    Spicey ethnic quisines week?

  2. Speakerblast

wow… 1:03 in the morning (12:03 for you guys) and someone already beat me to the theme.

I DO enjoy glass shards in my taco though.

  3. C4Pottery

    Yay, references.

  4. greenimp

im guessing spicy foods week or foreign foods (by which i mean non-mainstream western foods)

  5. Garrett Williams

Hmmm, where have I seen that cactus before… hmmm……
    :D

  6. Kurast

My mother once started making her frozen meat packs smaller than normal but used the same amount of taco seasoning.

They were painful dinners until she realized the mistake 2 years later.

Isn’t that cactus from Girls with slingshots?

Also, awesome to see Biff with a sombrero.

  8. crtlion

    It’s McPedro!

  9. Sir Lancelot

    Yay, it’s McPedro!

I made the mistake of going to an Indian restaurant and asking for “spicy”.

It’s been 2 years, and my doctor says my intestines are almost back to normal and I don’t breathe firey noxious fumes that much anymore!

I actually use ground chicken for my tacos. It’s awesome.

    MadDavid:
Well what I learned as a kid was that spicy food was originally brought into cultural cuisine to cover the taste of meat that had somewhat spoiled. Sounds like that taco seasoning is hearkening back to its spicy food roots.

  11. Anji

    Yay, McPedro!

My mom uses Taco Bell store bought taco seasonings. All I can say is, you get used to it after a while.

    Spicy Food Week!

  14. Micah

Well, it may be foreign foods week, but it’s also food wrapping week for the title. Check it out…Nori is a edible seaweed wrap. I think masa is a dough.

  15. Ziggy Stardust

    yay!
All of the Tex-mex food is the same around here. A burrito is veggies, beans and meat in a tortilla… a taco is veggies, beans and meat in a tortilla… enchiladas? veggies, cheese and meat in a tortilla, fried.

  16. TheWhite

MCPEDROOO WOOOO, to weseomt higns in one day McPedro + Biff = unfathomable awesomeness

  17. MaskedMan

The meat is only a carrying mechanism for the seasonings… With the sole exception of carne asada. There, you need the proper cut of meat, of you’ll get ‘Fail.’

I’ve had fish tacos, turkey tacos, beef tacos, chicken tacos, bison tacos, and even tofu tacos; so long as the seasoning and texture are there, the *kind* of meat matters surprisingly little.

I wanna know what instrument hit the high note – Trumpet, perhaps?

  18. Lorcan

I really like the mustachioed singing cactus. That would make a good tattoo!
And wouldn’t that be ‘Taco Biff’?

  19. Grug

    It’s definitely Foreign Food week.

  20. Marr965

Chris? You there? What should we do if we want to make suggestions?

  21. Chris

@Marr965 – Yes I’m here! Feel free to suggest a theme or topic here. I don’t do comics that other people write though.

  22. fishamaphone

McPedro is awesome, yes he is. McPedro needs to be in more webcomics. Hooray for McPedro!

  23. NaomiKnight

Woooo! McPedro! God, I love when my favorite comics intersect :D

  24. dartigen

Food week, I’ll guess (spicy food by the look of it).
Here we can only get Old El Paso taco kits. My Mum has problems with reflux, so we only use about 1/3 of the seasoning mix. I usually use chicken stir-fry strips or beef mince, though I once managed to do it with lamb strips.

  25. -2!

    @Chris

do a -2! theme… or a Uranium Theme or a no wait I have not released that yet…

Also this is the best comic strip ever (since i am @ing Chris)

  26. Zippy

I officially love you for putting McPedro in the background. <3

  27. Happy Turtle

Ach! Ah in another of yer comics?! Yeh all need a lil bit o’ McPedro, dontcha?!

  28. Rampage

I don’t know about all this McPedro business and whatnot, but I’m loving the cactus.

  29. The Scarf

I like the cactus picture in the background.

  30. Heatherface

WOOOO MCPEDRO. I miss that damn cactus.

  31. Vidja

Once during our monthly taco/burrito night I was in charge of making the mince, to the regular taco mix I added BBQ sauce, Indian curry powder, sweet chili sauce salt and pepper.
I make the mince every time now

  32. Darkpheonix005

The note was so high, it shattered the taco.

  33. Colin

have you ever seen Desperado? his nick name is El Mariachi! just a little Fun Fact

  34. Tuesday

    Oh hey! It’s McPedro!

  35. Bickendan

    McPedro FTW.

And a note that high could only come from a soprillo sax or a sopranino clarinet…

  36. Nokore

    IT’S MCPEDRO!!! =D

  37. JezMM

I finally decided to catch up with all the webcomics I’ve been neglecting, and Girls With Slingshots came just before Biff in my grand “to-do” list, and what do we have here! Hehe.

  38. Jess

My school does taco day every so often…it’s a mess but somewhat edible. At least, that’s what I thought until I found the plastic divider they use to separate the shells still in my taco shell. I was…not pleased.

  39. Kira

I loooooove the happy cactus painting in the background~
