#865 – Shell
I’m starting to have a hard time remembering what life was like before the internet. I still remember some things happening for the first time, like talking to someone on the phone in a different state while looking up a local movie theater time for them. That was a crazy “Are we in the future?” moment.

Calling someone to ask if they got your text message about the email that tells them to expect a letter in a few days concerning an ad in the paper for the carrier pigeon service you’re going to start up to pass messages on to telegraph operators who will instruct the smoke-signal senders on what to tell the town criers to say during the video conference next week.

Man, if I had a nickel for every time that happened… I’d be very poor…

There was life before internet?

I remember when there was the Net and no Web, it was all text, 6400 baud modems, and popcorn didn’t come in a bag.

Heh! I remember finding a 300-baud modem, still in operational use… only 12 years ago. Government IT, at your service!
Meanwhile, I have when I have bits of shell in my scramble. Makes the kernel all GUI.

The Internet is only weird if you really think about it. I remember as a kid Mom told me that E-Mails can arrive seconds after it was sent. If someone told a modern 7-8 year old they wouldn’t be as amused as I was then.

Are the chickens working on artificial intelligence? Because those yolks look an awful lot like eyes, and the processor, well, a brain. I shudder to think of a “robot chicken”.

Which came first, the chicken or the Pentium? LOL

Did two yolks come out of that egg?

By the way, what is the internet?
October 5th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
Now we know where computers come from…for chickens.
By the way I’m still going to let you know about those 3D pics of Biff that I made for a couple more times. I’m just trying to get the word out that my site exists. http://mattboy115.webs.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=7166246

But I should probably retouch them so it doesn’t look so bad. You really notice my shortcuts if you look at his hands.

Microchips over easy, part of a balanced breakfast!

Of course, if fish was used instead of eggs, it would have resulted in a oft-used silly word-play joke, but chicken eggs with chips is certainly a refreshingly bizarre imagery indeed.

I remember most of my web experience from when I was young. My first OS was Win 95, my first AOL was AOL 5.0, i remember when DSL caught on I use to brag that I could be on the phone and online at the same time, people couldn’t believe it and/or be jealous but I would prove to them by calling a line that wasnt occupied via dial up while typing to them online, and when talking to strangers on chat rooms was the best way to make friends with people all over the world now to talk to people you must know them beforehand or they could be a pedophile…geez doesn’t anybody remember A/S/L?

I’ve been using the internet for 12 years (since 1997). I have done lots of stuff on the internet. Some of it good (like praising artists for their work) and some of it bad (like downloading free music and video, which I’m trying not to do anymore.) After all, I don’t want to end up in jail. So, I’ve been using the internet for good, by buying CDs of the songs that I want.

So, I guess this will date me… Who else owned/operated a VIC 20? Commodore 64? TRS 80/Tandy Color Computer?
Any of y’all remember Commodore Datasette (Cassette Tape ‘drive’)? Memory counted in Kilobytes, as opposed to Gbs & Teraflops?
300 baud hanshake screech? where you put the phone handle into the cradles?
