It wasn't a good idea... it was an /awesome/ idea. At least it's better than my microwave powered mouse trap. It got rid of mice really quickly, but the smell wasn't worth it.

Mice are nothing. In our bathroom a couple years ago, we realized what we thought were mice living in the walls. Then one evening I walked in and found not one but two of the biggest RATS I had ever seen. One looked sick and didn't run away so I was able to catch it. Then we set a monster big trap for the other and get rid of it. I was scared to let me cats in there, they would've gotten messed up big time.

If you're not allergic to stark ugly, a Mexican Hairless cat could work for you Chris. And although it has already been said you do not need to bait a cat, I find it fun to do so anyways.

When it comes to dispatching mice, I make sure to either use a cat, or a good, well-baited trap. Gum drop-type candy works like a charm for your basic snap-trap. I attracts the mouse, and the consistency holds them in place to insure the intended result. Those newer plastic clip traps, where you don't have to touch the mouse, work well too. You don't have to apply bait to a cat.

A properly-launched mouse can do a surprising amount of damage.
You don't really want to know why I know that.

And they don't always work.
I think my cat and the mice are in cahoots.*

*Great word, that: Cahoots. Makes me feel all old-fashioned and stuff.

Hey Chris. Last night I had a dream where I turned into Biff and had to kung-fu fight a bunch of monsters made of vegetables while on the stage of a musical. It was awesome!

Can a mouse really hit a window with that much force?

Anyhow, I've never had any problems with mice in the house/apartment, because... Well, we've had cats since I was three years old or so. Not that I think that they would really kill a mouse, though... I think that most of my cats would be afraid of a fast little animal, really. :)
