My sister-in-law's cat was like that. Somehow, she could take up a lot more room than seemed possible for an average-sized housecat, especially if she decided to lay on the bed. After she passed away, Brother and wife had plenty of room, then they had a daughter a couple of year later. She seemed to pick up where the cat left off. My brother has fallen out of bed, trying to make room for his kid.

My dog likes to sit on the couch and on my bed, but he doesn't care about whether the spot he sits on has been warmed up or not. But if our biggest cat is sitting on the couch, the dog suddenly has to sit there too, but he can't, because he is a bit afraid of this cat!

Guess how many of my animals that can sit on one seat in the couch! ...One. And that's not because they start fighting over who gets to be there or anything - they're just that big. And I'm talking about my cats and my "purebred" Papillon here... (They *are* big, not overweight!)
