It seems to me america is the only country that takes pleasure in deep frying everything. Try to find something that isn't deep fried into a treat.

I couldn't call myself an Australian if I didn't use this opportunity to extol the virtues of Vegemite. Its great stuff. I'm always curious to hear non-Australians' opinions of it, because I get the impression its a loooooong way from being universally popular. Anyone out there even tried it?

What is vegimite by the way? I know it's australlias favorite sandwich topping, like peanut butter.

Actually, its made from a by-product of beer production. That's right, the leftovers of our favourite drink are used to make our favourite food. What a country!
The substance itself is about the same consistency as peanut butter, maybe a bit firmer, its almost-black and quite salty. Most people hate it the first time they try it, but then they can't get enough of it.

I'm up for some vegemite, just as long as you don't spread it to thick, then it just makes me feel like butt. Fishface

I've never tried Vegemite, but we have something similar here in the UK called marmite, which is also made from yeast extract, a by-product of beer. It's got a very strong savoury flavour and as such is a very love-hate food here. I'm in the love group. The best description of it is from Bill Bryson's "Notes from a Small Island" about Britian, where he lists it as one of the things that you have to be British to appriciate, describing it as "a thick savoury sandwhich spread with the visual propeties of an industrial lubricant".
It's fantastic on toast though.

Yes, especially cheddar. My dad also swears its great with onion, but I haven't tried that. I am under the impression that marmite is almost indistinguishable from vegemite, except perhaps by the design of the jar it comes it.

You can get SPAM over here, its just that no one does. I tasted it once... very nearly vomited. I was nauseous for about 15 minutes afterwards.

I've actually never had spam. The thing I can't stand is anything with aspartame in it. Horrific!

Make it with Soy Sauce, at least 1/4 of a bottle. It may smell bad but you will like it, trust me!

I'm notorious for being a SPAM fanatic. For anybody who's read my comic, the Orangey cat's name is "SpamFish"(since 1999 I think), although I've been considering renaming him "Squish", just in case I want to sell merchandise with him on it, and I don't feel like asking Hormel for permission. I made a SPAM fansite back in maybe 1996, and for some reason Geocities(now Yahoo) has kept it around. Most of the external links are dead. To show you how old the site is(even though I gave the year), the link "Click here if you can't see the text on this page" was due to an incompatibility with NETSCAPE 2.0(background colors on tables weren't supported yet in that version), and on a form, I had to note that your browser must be able to display forms(If you were still using Mosaic, the form would simply not be there, leaving people confused). I think at that time, nobody should have still been using those browsers anyway. Oh, and since there's really only one Spamfish comic on my website(comics are titled "Vintage Enk"), HERE'S my old SpamFish comic site from 2000 with ALL of the Spamfish comics ever made. Erm, I never did get that animated cartoon digitized, or the comic book even started. For my current comics, check out Garrett's Sketchbook in my sig. Hmm, now I'm considering that leftover SPAM in my fridge...
